Amoebae

Food uptake by amoebae. Top left: Purple bacteria have been encircled. Further images show feeding on cyanobacteria from first contact by pseudopodia to final uptake into a food vacuole.
Amoebae are predators. They enclose their food - mostly microorganisms like bacteria and algae - and take it up into a food vacuole. This process is called phagocytosis.
