Euglena
Euglena is easily recognized under the microscope. The cells have a size of about 50 µm and have a red eye-spot. This is not a real eye. However, the cells can react (phototactically) on changing light conditions. The eye-spot generates a shadow and helps the cells to detect from which direction the incident light is coming.
