It was proven by molecular-biological methods that three different types of spirochaetes are colonizing specific areas of Mixotricha paradoxa. The rods were identified as distant relatives of the genus Bacteroides. One type of spirochaete, stained with a specific probe, colonizes only the front (see in the picture on the top right), others the rear.
