Zooplankton

On the left: Ciliates grazing bacteria which have been assembled
around an air bubble beneath the cover glass.
On the right: Ciliat that has eaten a diatom which is almost digested.
Ciliates take up their food in form of particles that are enclosed by vacuoles at the mouth area. Bacteria represent their favorite food; but some of them are not shy at bigger prey.
